The 2024 World Conference on Lung Cancer kicks off Saturday, September 7, with a day of workshops offering education to many different sub-specialties and interests.

For example, the IASLC Nursing and Allied Health Professionals Committee (NAHP) and the International Thoracic Oncology Nursing Forum (ITONF) will host their third joint WCLC workshop. The theme of this year’s workshop is holistic care in thoracic oncology, and it will highlight the knowledge and expertise thoracic oncology nurses and other allied health professionals bring to the multidisciplinary team in the holistic care and treatment of patients with thoracic cancers. The workshop will cover the latest treatment options, including those beyond the bedside. It will also tackle global issues in thoracic cancer care.

The IASLC Patient Advocates Committee has developed a workshop titled Understanding and Managing Compassion Fatigue in Medical Practice. Because compassion fatigue is a significant issue for many oncology professionals, the workshop will examine its root causes as well as discuss how to recognize and manage compassion fatigue.

Researchers may also be interested in an interactive workshop organized by the IASLC Career Development Committee, which will explore the keys to a successful grant application. Another workshop, organized by the IASLC Communications Committee, aims to help attendees elevate their science communications skills. Experts will share strategies for conquering stage fright, crafting compelling abstracts and other scientific content, clearly communicating data, giving a good interview, and more.

For more information, see the complete list of workshops below or consult the WCLC 2024 website for the most up-to-date program information.
