During the 2023 World Conference on Lung Cancer, attendees from around the globe took part in the gathering’s annual wellness challenge: Step It Up for Research. The walk-a-thon event not only promotes healthy choices, it also supports the IASLC Foundation.
During the challenge, participants earn a total of 11,122,958 points. Additionally, many participants reached Challenge Goal Levels:
- 40,000+ Points: 107 participants
- 60,000+ Points: 64 participants
- 80,000+ Points: 42 participants
Each day, the top point earner was entered into a drawing for an Apple Watch. Additionally, the individual with the most points at the completion of the challenge won round-trip airfare to the destination of their choice. Marjolean Heuvelmans stood atop that final leader board to become the 2023 grand prize winner. Daily leaderboard drawing winners Sara Haesevoets, Eserval Rocha, Heather Law, and Dylan Long Jiang took home Apple watches.
The challenge also had a team competition. Participants competed for their home region, and the winning region—Middle East and Africa with 78,161 points—earned recognition on the Step It Up trophy as well as 5,000 bonus points toward their score in 2024.
Congratulations to the Middle East and Africa region and all the individual Step It Up for Research winners!
