The World Conference on Lung Cancer’s annual wellness challenge, Step It Up for Research, returns for another year in sunny San Diego. Step It Up for Research is a 4-day walk-a-thon and activity challenge. Join the fun and your steps will earn you points, which may earn you prizes and bragging rights among your peers. All participants will be added to a team, which are determined by each participant’s home region.

In addition to encouraging the physical and mental well-being of WCLC 2024 attendees, the challenge also supports the IASLC Foundation, which provides grants for research, education, and other scientific initiatives. Step It Up for Research is complimentary for all in-person WCLC attendees. The challenge begins at 08:00 PDT on Saturday, September 7, and ends at 17:00 PDT on Tuesday, September 10.

Get Started

To join the fun and make sure every step counts when you arrive in San Diego, download the IASLC Wellness Challenge app. Once you have completed the quick in-app registration, you will be able to join a team and sync the app with an activity tracker or smartphone to track your steps. The app is currently available in the Apple App Store and will be available in the Google Play Store soon.

Earn Points

Every step you take during the challenge will earn you—and your team—a point. But don’t stop there. Increase your score by participating in additional activities to earn bonus points. For example, you can earn bonus points by visiting select locations throughout the convention center or by watching brief wellness videos or by donating to the IASLC Foundation. Find all the details about bonus points in the app.

Win Prizes

At the end of the challenge, the 25 participants with the most points on the final cumulative leaderboard will have a chance to win the grand prize—a 3‐night weekday package for two at The Setting Inn in California’s Napa Valley, including airfare, chauffeured luxury ground transportation, daily breakfast, a private tasting of The Setting Wines at Bacchus Landing, a Schramsberg Winery cave tour and tasting, and a Culinary Institute of America culinary experience.

Top point scorers each day will have a chance to win an Oura Ring. Other prizes, including hats, travel exercise sets, duffle bag and yoga mat sets, and more will also be awarded.
