Presenter Profile: Lilian Faroni, MD, MSc, PhD

Thoracic Radiation Oncologist

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

ILCN: What is your presentation about?

Dr. Faroni: My presentation is about the challenges of radiation oncology in Latin America, focusing on economic disparities and difficulties in accessing technology.

ILCN: Why is this topic timely or important in 2024?

Dr. Faroni: This topic is always relevant, particularly in developing countries, because there is a disparity between such countries and their patients with different socioeconomic statuses. Talking about this topic is an opportunity to discuss and perhaps offer some solutions.

ILCN: How did you become involved with this area of lung cancer research, care, or advocacy?

Dr. Faroni: I have been working with radiation in lung cancer since 2009, and my PhD research was on lung cancer patients’ access to high-tech radiotherapy treatment in Brazil.

ILCN: What are you most looking forward to during the 50th Anniversary World Conference on Lung Cancer?

Dr. Faroni: I’m looking forward to a conference where we can talk about all the current topics and new research in lung cancer, as well as to connect with friends from around the world.
