喫煙は癌の原因として定着しており、年間約3人に1人の割合で癌死亡者が出ています。喫煙の有害な影響は十分に認識されていますが、癌と診断された後に喫煙を継続することの弊害は過少評価されています。癌患者や元癌患者が喫煙を続けると、全死亡率、癌関連死亡率、二次原発癌のリスクの増加を含む、治療転帰に悪影響を及ぼし、癌治療の毒性を著しく増大させます。癌と診断された後の喫煙の臨床効果は、癌治療費の増大にも大きく影響します。癌診断後に禁煙することで治療結果の改善が期待できますが、診断時に喫煙していた癌患者のほとんどは、治療中も喫煙を続けています。残念ながら、医療従事者が喫煙習慣のある患者と協力して禁煙を積極的に支援することはあまり多くありません。IASLC会...
