IASLC Announces Results of 2023 Board of Directors Election

The newly elected board members, including President-Elect Dr. Caicun Zhou, will assume their roles at the upcoming 2023 World Conference on Lung Cancer in Singapore.

The results of the 2023 IASLC Board of Directors election are in, and Dr. Caicun Zhou, MD, PhD, of Tongji University Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital in China, has been elected to serve as IASLC president-elect for a 2-year term beginning in September 2023. He will then serve a 2-year term as president followed by a 2-year term as past-president.

“We received a strong slate of candidates for a limited number of open Board of Directors positions, and I want to thank our members for taking part in this process,” said IASLC President Heather Wakelee, MD. “From submitting nominations and campaigning, to sharing your thoughts and opinions, your engagement, enthusiasm, and passion are central to why the IASLC remains the premier global lung cancer research organization. I also want to thank the members of the IASLC Nominating Committee for their work on this year’s Board of Directors Election.”

Of 8,282 eligible voters, 3,673 ballots were cast, a participation rate of 44.35%. Votes were cast in 61 countries, with the largest turnout in China, the US, and Japan.

Newly elected IASLC board members will begin their 4-year terms at the upcoming 2023 World Conference on Lung Cancer, which will take place September 9-12 in Singapore. They will serve alongside returning board members, including incoming President Paul Van Schil, MD, PhD. Other returning board members include Joachim Aerts, Carlos Gil Moreira Ferreira, Jhanelle Gray, Young Tae Kim, Morten Quist, Lecia Sequist, Ming Sound Tsao, and Paula Ugalde.
