After two years of virtual WCLC meetings, early-career members and first-time attendees will have an opportunity to interact face-to-face and network with leaders in the profession during this morning’s Early Career & First Time Attendee Session. The workshop takes place from 08:00 – 11:30 CEST today, Saturday, August 6, in Lehar 1.

Moderator and IASLC CEO Karen Kelly, MD, said the Early Career & First Time Attend Session is among the things she’s most looking forward to at WCLC 2022.

“It’s exciting to see the enthusiasm from our new attendees and fellows,” she said. “I can’t really describe the energy. It reminds me of my first world conference and the awe I felt meeting colleagues and lung cancer icons from around the globe. In addition to the valuable education the workshop provides, having access to veterans in the profession who are all willing to take the time to talk to you and help you further your career is priceless.”

Early Career & First Time Attendee Session

  • Time: 08:00 – 11:30 CEST
  • Date: Saturday, August 6
  • Location: Lehar 1
  • Moderators: Karen Kelly, MD, and Heather Wakelee, MD

The workshop will include a series of talks from leaders in the field covering topics from how to give a great presentation or get a paper published to making the most of WCLC and the role of IASLC in developing countries.

IASLC President Heather Wakelee, MD, who will join Dr. Kelly in moderating the session, said these topics are important, but unfortunately, they are not always covered in formal training programs.

“The career guidance the presenters are able to give to our newer members and attendees is invaluable,” Dr. Wakelee said. “One of the best things about attending WCLC is the opportunity to network, and this session gives people early in their career a fantastic opportunity to meet others at a similar stage, but it is also a chance to meet those who have been working in the field for a long time. Both types of connections are critical.”
