During the IASLC Award Ceremony Saturday, four teams from around the world were honored for the exceptional care they provide their patients. The teams—one each from four regions—received the association’s Cancer Care Team Award after being nominated by a patient they serve.
The Cancer Care Team Award honors exceptional, multidisciplinary care teams. Exceptional care teams offer patients seamless and informed communication and individualized treatment based not only on the patient’s needs, but also the patient’s wishes. The Cancer Care Team Award aims to highlight this kind of worldwide outstanding care. The award was established in memory of Marilyn Holman, who died from lung cancer in 2016.
Each year, an international panel chooses one winning team from each of four regions: North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia/Rest of World. The selection criteria is based on the following criteria: trust, shared decision-making, empathy, access to care, treatment options, educational information, tumor testing, and patient support and survivorship.
